Did someone say there is a Tim Miller-directed Deadpool film coming in 2016? Damn straight we did. Looks like the Merc with a Mouth didn’t need to say much himself because the Internet made it abundantly clear that they wanted a Deadpool movie. After the mammoth response to the leaked Deadpool footage earlier this summer, it was just a matter of time until Fox realized they’d been sitting on a cash cow. Sure, they nearly torpedoed any chance of the film ever happening with that exercise in human misery called X-Men: Origins, but thankfully truth, justice, and chimichangas prevailed as we’re getting the Deadpool movie we’ve been craving.
Twentieth Century Fox and Marvel announced today that Deadpool, directed by Tim Miller, written by Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, and starring Ryan Reynolds, will be hacking and slashing its way into theaters on February 12, 2016. Technically, Reynolds isn’t officially attached to star, but we’re betting it’s only a matter of time until they make things official.
In an interview with Niagara Falls Review, Reynolds sounded off on how the leak likely helped things along, saying, “The movie has been in a state of limbo for a while. There was such an overpowering reaction to the footage, you sort of feel like, ‘Oh, so we weren’t crazy for our reasons for loving this character, for loving this role.’ It’s interesting to see the power of the Internet. It’s awe-inspiring, actually. And it’s neat that Twitter and Facebook and Instagram can move mountains when used in the right way.” You’re gosh darn right it’s neat, Ryan Reynolds. Honestly though, considering they’ve been trying to make this film since 2003, it’s about time that we had dose of fourth-wall shattering anti-heroic awesomeness in our future.
However, one does not simply drop a Deadpool movie into the schedule without creating a ripple effect across the entirety of Fox’s genre lineup. The Michael Fassbender-starring Assassin’s Creed adaptation, which was originally slated for August 7, 2015, has been pushed back to 2016 due to production delays. Scheduling issues and script rewrites have delayed the production, according to insiders close to the project.
Who will move into that newly vacated August 7 slot? None other than Josh Trank’s Fantastic Four reboot, starring Miles Teller, Michael B. Jordan, Kate Mara, and Jamie Bell, of course. Fantastic Four‘s original June 19, 2015 release date will be filled by an adaptation of John Green’s Paper Towns, presumably to capitalize on the success of The Fault In Our Stars, which had a similar summertime release. Why are they making the move though? Well, Guardians of the Galaxy did gangbusters with an early August slot this summer, so perhaps Fox is trying to replicate that late summer success in a less crowded month for big ticket summer movies.
One thing’s for sure — 2015 and 2016 are going to be some seriously kickass years for fans of tentpole genre cinema.

If they keep it in the same style and and graphics as the deadpool test footage then its going to be insane! Fantastic four cant be worse than the first 2 so worth a shot
Why, oh why, would they actually try to make ANOTHER Fantastic Four?? They fucked up the first two enough, you’d think that would have to brains to just stop already.
Different people are making this one. Since when do people actually learn from other people’s mistakes?
Fox has the license to the IP and Marvel superhero movies are exceedingly popular right now, so they’d be foolish not to capitalize on it.
Just dont see it, and you will be happier.
If it’s going to be true to Deadpool’s style, it has to be gory, over the top, and filled with humor. And I sincerely hope they have Bruce Campbell as one of the voices in his head.
ABOUT. &%*@$#%. TIME.
