Freezing someone in carbonite is an easy and efficient way to transport a person throughout the galaxy far, far awayâbut if you want your pleasure palace on Tatooine to have a little bit more glitz and glamour then trying freezing your favorite smuggler in solid gold. Because that’s just what one jeweler did with a LEGO Han Solo, turning the little piece of plastic into a much more valuable piece of fancy Star Wars merchandise.
This video, which was clearly made by someone that loves A) Star Wars and B) awful, wonderful Star Wars and LEGO jokes, comes to us from the YouTube account JerryRigEverything, and it shows how S.E. Needham Jewelers in Logan, Utah made the fancy little guy.
The LEGO Han Solo was melted away inside a high-grade plaster mold that was placed in a 2,000-degree burnout furnace. Melted 14-karat gold was then poured into the mold created by the “vaporized” figure, and following some fancy, highly skilled fine-tuning and polishing from the jeweler, Han Goldo (sorry!) was thrown into a tumbler and given an ultrasonic cleaning bath.
The nice thing about being made of solid gold is that when you owe Jabba the Hutt a lot of money, instead of being frozen in carbonite and becoming a piece of the palace’s decor, you can just cut off a pinky and be done with it.
And it’s damn near impossible to look scruffy when you are literally gold.
