As fans of rocker Jack White know, the former White Stripes frontman accused the Black Keys of ripping off his sounds in a recent issue of Rolling Stone. He later explained those remarks via his website and wished the Black Keys well. But even if White and the Keys are willing to put the past behind them, two restaurant chains on opposite sides of the globe are keeping the rivalry alive. The California-based Umami Burger has just announced it will debut The Black Keys’ Akron Burger (pictured above) on July 1st, while Australia’s Gelato Messina has unveiled the Jack ‘N White (pictured below) in honor of the “Seven Nation Army” composer’s new album Lazaretto.
The Akron Burger consists of Umami’s beef patty, Velveeta fondue, secret sauce, yellow mustard, chopped onions, and dill pickles. One dollar from the sale of each burger will go to The Black Keys Alfred McMoore Memorial Fund. Gelato Messina’s Jack ‘N White consists of Jack Daniels, caramelized white chocolate gelato, caramelized pecans, and caramelized fudge. Heads up, Aussies — this one’s only available for the next week.
Thanks to Pitchfork for bringing this to our attention.
I live in Akron and if you want a burger you go to Swensons. Forget your fancy burgers. Give us a cheeseburger or the Galley Boy. Check out the youtube video of The Black Keys shout out to Akron.
