I’m running out of ways to explain just how awesome Dave Grohl and the Foo Fighters are. Over the past few months they’ve proven themselves–mostly due to Grohl’s general superhuman levels of badassery–as living rock & roll legends by doing some pretty amazing things.
By now we’re sure you’ve heard, seen, read about the Rockin’ 1000Â which, much like the name suggests, involved a thousand musicians rocking out to a Foo Fighters song. If you’ve kept your ear to the ground for Foo Fighters related news you also may know that soon after the Rockin’ 1000’s plea to have the band play their part of Italy, Grohl responded with a heartfelt promise.
In October, the band said they would make good on that promise by announcing the show and we can’t be happier that the show appears to have been absolutely epic. It’s likely a show that no one in attendance will ever forget. A mind-bogglingly long (in a good way) 27-song set featured songs from all the Foo Fighters albums, covers, and even participation from some of the Rockin’ 1000 musicians. Despite most of the world missing such an amazing show, Grohl’s thank you speech was captured by a fan and is particularly sweet.
Recapping the day he learned of the original Rockin’ 1000 video, Grohl continually thanked the crowd for doing such a beautiful thing before launching straight into a “love song” version of 1995’s “Big Me”. Most heartwarming of all was the moment creator of the Rockin 1000, Fabio Zaffagnini, was invited on stage. Grohl stepped down from his custom throne for a few moments so that Zaffagnini could have a well-deserved seat to address the crowd.
The concert and these videos are such such a damn good bookend to something months in the making. Whether or not you like the music of the The Foo Fighters you have to respect the love and commitment the band has for its fans and vice versa.
