Kiefer Sutherlandâs Jack Bauer may be gone, but thereâs a new hero in 24 and his name is Eric Carter!
Ahead of the Fox network upfronts, Entertainment Weekly has published the first official image of Straight Outta Compton star Corey Hawkins as Eric Carter, the leading man of 24: Legacy. And as you can see in the pic, Carter is looking very Bauer-like in that pose.
24: Legacy shares the same world as the original series, but CTU (Counter Terrorism Unit) is the primary connective tissue between the new show and its first incarnation. According to the series’ early descriptions, Carter is a recently returned Army Ranger who finds himself drawn into a deadly terrorist plot and recruited by CTU to help them stop it.
While 24: Live Another Day ended with Bauer surrendering himself to the Russians, donât expect any immediate resolution for that cliffhanger. Kiefer Sutherland recently joined 24: Legacy as an executive producer, which means that the door isnât completely closed for Bauer to reappear somewhere down the road. However, Sutherland is also starring on the new ABC series Designated Survivor as the President of the United States. So if Bauer were to return, it probably wouldnât be anytime soon.
If anyone is coming back from the original series, weâd put money on Carlos Bernardâs Tony Almeida. In a segment filmed for the 24: Live Another Day DVD, Tony reappeared with a plan to escape prison and work undercover for the government. But whether 24: Legacy ever revisits that plotline remains to be seen. Fox is expected to announce its plans for 24: Legacy at the network upfronts later this month.
