The somewhat controversial television remake of The Rocky Horror Picture Show is now just a little over a month away from premiering on Fox, and the the hype-machine for the musical event is now starting to get into full swing. Fox has just released the first full song from the movie, which is now available for streaming, and it’s Victoria Justice‘s remake of “Touch A Touch A Touch A Touch Me,” a song originally performed in the 1975 film by Susan Sarandon.
So just how does “Touch A Touch A Touch A Touch Me” measure up compared to the original, cult classic version? Personally, I think Victoria Justice does a pretty great job with it: Vocally, she’s way more trained than Susan Sarandonâalthough I have to agree with the assessment of the folks at the A.V. Club, when they say that Sarandon brought a little more camp humor to the song than Justice does, but it’s not like Justice is doing some dead serious version of it either. The arrangement is different and takes a little getting used to if you’re an old school Rocky fan, but it’s not bad either.
I was lucky enough to see the first thirty minutes or so of the new Rocky Horror Picture Show at Comic-Con, and judging from that preview I honestly think fans don’t have anything to worry about. Besides, the original musical has been staged dozens of times with a whole slew of different casts, the only thing with this one is thatâsimilar to the 1975 versionâsomeone decided to film it. Nothing will ever replace the campy joy of the original, but it’s also nice to have options. You can listen to the new rendition of “Touch A Touch A Touch Me” in the video above.
The Rocky Horror Picture Show premieres on Fox on October 21.
