The 20th day of April means different things to different people. For Star Trek superfans, it’s George Takei’s birthday, a cause for exclaiming “Oh my!” in celebration. For fans of terrible painting and unthinkable genocide, it’s Adolf Hitler’s birthday. But for most of us, it’s 4/20, a weed-centric faux holiday that is the equivalent of Christmas for stoners and the wake-and-baking nightmare for whoever is manning the Taco Bell drive-thru window. But driving while you’re baked out of your gourd is a bad idea. After all, wouldn’t your rather stay at home and order a pizza? Doesn’t that sound like fun? Just melting into your couch while hot cheese melts into your mouth?
But let’s say you’re an environmentally conscious marijuana user who has weed and wants pizza but doesn’t have a way to smoke it. What do you do then? You turn to New York-based designer Nikolas Gregory and his brilliant idea to create a pizza box that can also be turned into a pipe for smoking whatever strain of awkwardly Star Wars-named weed you bought from your friend’s cousin Jeff. But Gregory didn’t let this piece of high-minded engineering simply go up in smoke; rather, he reached out to Push for Pizza, a pizza ordering app, and began a collaboration that feels incredibly obvious in hindsight.
The device looks like a standard cardboard pizza box, complete with a piping hot pie inside for your eating pleasure. However, there is a small section on the lid that can be removed and rolled into a makeshift pipe. The small, picnic table-looking white standee that protects the pizza from the top of the box is made of heat resistant ceramic and acts as the bowl of the pipe.
In an interview with AdWeek, co-founder Cyrus Summerlin explained the benefit of his product: “The pizza is in hand before the munchies set in, leading to a more relaxed and enjoyable experience without the interminable delay of its delivery or the pain of gnawing hunger.”
One small step for man, one giant leap on to the couch to watch Adventure Time reruns until 3 AM.
