The Cutest Version of FINAL FANTASY XV Is Coming in February

If you haven’t had the chance to finish Final Fantasy XV on your home console or if you simply want to relive the story of Noctis Lucis Caelum on the go, then you’ll get your chance next month. Square Enix has announced that Final Fantasy XV: Pocket Edition will be released in just a few weeks.

Via IGN and Silicon Era, Final Fantasy XV: Pocket Edition has an official release date of February 9, and it will be available on the App store and Google Play. This version of the title uses a chibi art style, but aside from the visuals, it’s a largely faithful translation of the original game that was released in 2016. Even the cinematic scenes and voiceovers are intact, as you can see in the following video.

Final Fantasy XV Pocket Edition will follow the story of the original game, in which Prince Noctis and his friends have to deal with the fall of the Kingdom of Lucis and the invasion of the Niflheim. Except this time, events will play out over the course of 10 episodes, which effectively makes the Pocket Edition a serial. Additionally, there is apparently a chance that the Pocket Edition could be ported to the Nintendo Switch. While speaking to DualShockers, Square Enix’s Hajime Tabata confirmed the standard edition of Final Fantasy XV wasn’t able to meet performance expectations on the Switch. Presumably the simplified visuals of the Pocket Edition will be easier for that system to pull off.
