FINAL FANTASY XV Just Released a Wealth of New Details

The year was 2006, and Final Fantasy XV was announced. Now, the year is 2016, and it’s… still not out. But that’s okay, because it’s finally coming soon, with an expected release date of September 30. Ahead of that, some new details about the game and how it will play have been shared (via IGN), courtesy of director Hajime Tabata’s recent appearance on Active Time Report, which has been translated from its original Japanese.

It was revealed that Final Fantasy XV won’t be a true open world game, but that the world will become increasingly accessible at the game progresses. The game uses “something similar to a skill tree” to learn new abilities—this arsenal of moves will not include climbing, which is impossible in the game. There are also seven primary weapon types, and each supposedly has a great variety, and “the Armiger is related to the story.”

Noctis’ car, The Regalia, will also be faster than the Chocobo. Speaking of travel, it will be possible to quickly travel to places you have previously camped at, as well as to freely save the game at any location. Tabata also says not to worry about the difficulty of the action elements of the game, since it is an RPG at heart and the action parts of the game were designed to be accessible to players of many skill levels.

There are a few other tidbits of info here, and we’ve already seen what the game’s going to look like and gotten some other basic info about this hotly anticipated title that’s 10 years in the making. While you’re here, check out a trailer for the game below.
