FINAL FANTASY XII Remaster for PS4 Confirmed for Western Release in 2017

Every time there’s some sort of news from Square Enix, hype builds. (Kingdom Hearts 3, anyone?) The Final Fantasy series is no stranger to the process of remastering. After a lot of speculation over the past year, it’s finally official—the long-awaited PS2 bestseller from 2006, Final Fantasy XII, will be remastered and released under the name Final Fantasy XII The Zodiac Age. Check out the official trailer above!

As the 12th entry of the series, Final Fantasy XII  has only had one real addition in the West with the DS entry, Final Fantasy XII: Revenant Wings, which was a follow-up of Vaan and Penelo one year after the events from the main story. Confirmation (via Kotaku) arrived this morning stating that The Zodiac Age will definitely be available on the PS4 to Eastern and Western players next year. As we’ve seen with previous entries, each remaster comes with its own unique perks.

So what can we expect from Final Fantasy XII The Zodiac Age? The international version of Zodiac Age is pulled from a 2007 feature that wasn’t previously released to the West. It predominantly includes a different job system with leveling options which should entice the majority of FFXII fans. The in-game and cutscene visuals will of course be tuned up too, and an auto-save feature, shorter load times, and improved turbo mode will be added as well.

And (always my personal favorite) much like the PS4 remaster for FFX, the score will be re-recorded with an option to switch between the original score and this remastered score from composer Hitoshi Sakimoto. You can also switch in-game between the English and Japanese voiceovers. Trophies and share additions to fit the PS4 will be included, too.

It appears that Square Enix will be taking this one to E3 as a playable demo, so check back here once that kicks off later this month. Have a look around our gallery for new hi-res screenshots of Final Fantasy XII The Zodiac Age, which we found over at Gematsu. And let us know below how excited you are to finally return to Ivalice!
