FINAL FANTASY VII Remake Will Be Fully Voice-Acted

The Final Fantasy franchise has always reached for the clouds.

The director of Square Enix’s Final Fantasy VII remake Tetsuya Nomura, and producer Yoshinori Kitase, did an interview about the game with Dengeki PlayStation recently. In it they confirmed that the game will feature full voice-acting through out the episodic adventure. There aren’t too many details outside of that, but Nomura says Square Enix is still figuring out who to cast for characters that weren’t featured in the Advent Children film from 2005, and how they will sound.

Nomura has also said that the voice acting will be present in all parts of the game, even in mini-games like the infamous dating scene. However, mini-games may not be exactly how fans remember. Kitase explained, “Since it’s different from that time and social situation, we need [to] implement the reproduction of original events carefully.” This could also mean fans may not see every mini-game from the original Final Fantasy VII reproduced for the remake, though no details have been released either.

Aside from voice-acting, the game may see a more open-world style of gameplay implemented, as featured in the most recent teaser footage from Playstation Experience 2015. Kitase didn’t want to commit to referring to the game as either open-world or a “sandbox” map, but did confirm that Nomura is “more focused on the creation of scenery” and how character actions affect the environment. One must wonder what aspects of Final Fantasy XV will shape the creative direction of the Final Fantasy VII remake and its gameplay.
