The FINAL FANTASY VII Final Battle Theme Played on a Shamisen is Truly Rocking

Of the many beloved elements of Final Fantasy VII, widely considered to be not only the most popular entry in its franchise but one of the greatest video games of all time, its music ranks high—especially final battle theme, titled “One-Winged Angel.” As Sora News24 shows, fans of the game take talent and creativity to new levels to show their appreciation for the game and its tunes. Twitter user shamio6 posted a video of himself playing the classic battle theme on a shamisen.

For those unaware, a shamisen is a three-stringed Japanese instrument. It’s very similar to a banjo, but when it is played it has more of a rock-adjacent vibe to it than a country one. With the shamisen blasting the notes of “One-Winged Angel,” the song has the potential to sound even cooler while backing the action of Cloud, Barrett, and Yuffie than the original PlayStation sound effects did. (Then again, we’ll have to listen to the original again. Nostalgia goes a long way.) Regardless of which version of this song you like better, it really has us champing at the bit for the eventual release of the remake of Final Fantasy VII, whenever that may be.

So what do you think? Do you like this version better than the original, or are you of the “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” camp? Let me know on Twitter @donnielederer or sound off in the comments below.
