FilmBundle Lets You Pay What You Want for Indie Films (and Donate to Charity Too!)

Often, making an indie film is an endeavor of passion. Sure, there are the Kevin Smith, Quentin Tarantino, Steven Soderbergh stories of the ’90s and Saw-like stories of the 2000s, but those examples are few and far between compared to what happens to most indie films. They are made, shown at a couple festivals, and often never seen again. However, thanks to the new service FilmBundle, that might start to change, all for the sake of charity.

The goal of FilmBundle is to follow in the footsteps of Humble Bundle, allowing customers to purchase a selection of indie films for a price of their choosing. At checkout, you are able to divide your payment between the filmmakers, FilmBundle, and charity (and to which charity they want to see it go to). So, indie films that wouldn’t otherwise be seen get additional eyes and some charities get some much needed money, there’s no downside in that from what we can see.

This month, FilmBundle is featuring a slate of short films including Mediation, Save Me a Spot, Shadowplay, Empyrean, and The Drain. Users who pay more than the average of $10.13 will receive Tin & Tina, Brave Girl, Mr. Chavan, and Drone Strike too. Nine films for $10.13? It’s hard to argue with those prices even if the money wasn’t going to support a good cause.

It’s things like this that remind us a love for film still exists. In an age where most of Hollywood is focused on safe bets in the form of sequels and adaptations, the ever-rising pool of talent within the indie scene is keeping the spirit of cinema alive and well. Given that indie film gave us some of our favorite films and franchises, so it’s nice to see a new outlet being created for filmmakers in the community to have their work seen.

For more information, be sure to following FilmBundle on Twitter and Facebook.
