When I’m not browsing artists’ alley looking for indie comic books and snazzy art at conventions, I’m wandering the exhibit hall searching for fun fan-made items. Sometimes it’s Star Wars jewelry, sometimes it’s build your own geeky clocks, and other times, it’s stuffed animals. When I spotted That Creative Fox’s wares at Baltimore Comic-Con last weekend, I almost lost it because they sell adorable cat plushies styled after superheroes and other pop culture characters. I might have clapped my hands like a little kid.
Eve Cowan makes the toys from fleece, felt, glue, and puff paint. The kitties are sewn by hand which means they’re not suitable for kids who squeeze the stuffing out of plushies, but they’re great for everyone else. I fell in love with the Wolverine design, and I appreciate all the details: he has foam claws, stripes, a belt, and an appropriately surly expression:
Other superhero cat options include Batman, Deadpool, Cyclops, Loki, and Flash. There were even plushies of Catbug from Bravest Warriors and Cake from Adventure Time. I wanted to hug every cat on her table, and besides Wolverine, I’ll be adding a Daredevil cat to my collection.
You can buy an army of custom cats from That Creative Fox at Etsy. Real cats are pretty low maintenance, but stuffed cats only require cuddling and love. If your favorite superhero or cat from pop culture isn’t listed in the shop, keep in mind that they take custom requests. I know what all my fellow crazy cat pals are getting for Christmas this year!
