Felicity Jones on Her ROGUE ONE Outsider Hero Jyn Erso

Another all-too-brief summer weekend has come and gone. But even if there aren’t all that many left, today’s Movie Morsels has plenty to get you excited for the fall, winter and beyond. Starting with more details on Rogue One, straight from the mouth of its star, Felicity Jones. Plus, the latest on Wonder Woman, Fast 8, Deadpool 2, and more!

Rogue One: A Star Wars Story

Rogue One

In a new interview with Entertainment Weekly, actress Felicity Jones has a few words to say about her character Jyn Erso’s status and motivation in Rogue One

“She is absolutely a very unlikely heroine. She’s someone on the edges and fringes of society. Physically, she’s smaller than everyone else around her, but… when someone has something they believe in, that’s what powers them, that’s what motivates them, that’s what can give someone enormous strength.”

Jones also remarked on Erso’s relationship with the leader of the Rebel Alliance, Mon Mothma…

“I would say there’s a huge amount of respect for women in the Rebellion. Mon Mothma is ultimately, for Jyn, someone she looks up to. So even as the film opens [Jyn] has a very strong female role model in front of her, and someone she respects.”

Wonder Woman

And while we’re talking about kick-ass film heroines, an unnamed, supposed former employee of Warner Bros. has written a letter to studio chief Kevin Tsujihara complaining about the quality of the studio’s DC films, and alleging that “People inside [Wonder Woman] are already confirming it’s another mess.” The letter has been rapidly making the internet rounds, but director Patty Jenkins has, via a series of tweets, vehemently denied the rumor it contains…

Fast 8

With shooting on Fast 8 in its final days, the production has shared a photo of the film’s cast — perhaps the first complete such photo — via Facebook. Along with news that the film’s first trailer will arrive in December…

Allied

Robert Zemeckis and Brad Pitt have both had quite a bit of success with period melodramas, so their World War II “romantic thriller” Allied will have quite the pedigree when it opens on November 23. The film, based on a true story, pairs Pitt with Marion Cotillard as lovers tasked with killing a Nazi official. Here’s the first teaser trailer for Allied

Deadpool 2

Finally today, a little something from the take-with-a-grain-of-salt department. Friday Night Lights star Kyle Chandler is rumored to be under consideration to play Cable in Deadpool 2. Reporter Jeff Sneider on Meet the Movie Press has mentioned that “he’s heard Chandler’s name several times with regards to the Cable role in Deadpool 2.” He also mentions that The Martian actress Mackenzie Davis could wind up cast as Cable’s longtime associate Domino. Naturally, this is just hearsay until proved otherwise, but it does have us asking ourselves if Chandler and Davis could do justice to the roles of the time-traveling cyborg and his fellow mutant mercenary. What say you guys?
