FEAR THE WALKING DEAD Trailer Turns The Lights Out in L.A.

In just a little under three weeks, the world will jump back into the The Walking Dead Universe, but not the one we are all so familiar with. Fear The Walking Dead, the spin-off series, will premiere on AMC on August 23, and AMC is rolling out more and more trailers, and advertisements, to get everyone prepared. This newest one takes an interesting approach, following a time-lapse of the Los Angeles skyline as the walker virus spreads through the city, and the chaos that ensues from this. What starts out like any other night in L.A. quickly turns grim as power starts shutting down, fires erupt across the skyline, and search helicopters are flying about. As the sunrises, the world as we knew it is gone, despite how similar it may look.

This trailer is a little different than things we have seen AMC do before, going more for a conceptual and artistic style in advertising the show, instead of using pre-existing footage from the program. While the word trailer is used for the video, it’s 30-second length lends better to a TV spot or a teaser. This holds true, especially, when looking at the Comic-Con trailer for the show, which ran near three minutes in length and gave a decent overview of what to expect from the pilot episode. Honestly, it is nice to see these short, creative turns in advertising for a show that requires almost no advertising to be seen anyway. AMC knows the Walking Dead name will be enough to pull in an audience, so it is nice to see that they are having some fun with presenting the show instead of doing the same old thing.
