Battle of the Horror Nerds–and Sexes–in Fantastic Fest’s Fantastic Feud!

Fantastic Fest Day 5 saw interviews with more talented horror and genre filmmakers, like The Invitation‘s writer/director Karyn Kusama, a nerdy freestyle competition, and of course, the festival’s annual Fantastic Feud.

Created by he of Nerdist and FearNet fame, Scott Weinberg, The Fantastic Feud pits “the greatest American horror scholars against the feeble competition from foreign lands. Much drinking and feats of mental agility ensue.” If there’s anywhere for genre nerds to duke it out in a battle of wits, it’s Fantastic Fest.

Joining the ranks this year was our own Clarke Wolfe, who fought for on a team of badass ladies, along with Karyn Kusama, Katie Rife, Britt Hayes, Jen Yamato, and Roxanne Benjamin.

And on the boys’ team we had Todd Brown, Greg MacLennan, Elijah Wood, Colin Geddes, Bret Berg, and Burnie Burns. Though the fellas were ultimately victorious, it was a nail-biter of a match where horror obsessives got to prove their salt and make some new like-minded pals. And hey, isn’t that what Fantastic Fest is all about?
