FANTASTIC BEASTS AND WHERE TO FIND THEM Trailer Is Incredibly Exciting

Although the final book chronicling Harry Potter’s  tutelage and misadventures at Hogwarts was published 11 years ago, and the film film depicting the very same releases five years ago, it’s tough to reason that we live in a post-Potter world. The stage play Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, and its accompanying text, was published earlier this year, ditto a series of wizard histories on J.K. Rowling’s website Pottermore. It was just last week, in fact, that the site launched a quiz for fans to take in order to discover the species of their own personal Patronus. (Granted, the quiz was hardly met with overwhelming praise. I’m not exactly thrilled about being stuck with a weasel, Jo.) And come November, we’re in for what is for sure the most exciting Potter-adjacent development to hit this year: Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, for which the latest trailer has just dropped.

The trailer finds “unregistered wizard” Newt Scamander (Eddie Redmayne) bounding between the brightest lights and darkest alleys of a a 1920s New York City, in hot pursuit of monsters on the loose. It seems like Scamander has a greater source of adversity in some fellow wizards who haven’t taken too kindly to his presence in the Big Apple, and perhaps a greater source still in the Muggle/No-Maj community (particularly, their hard boiled law enforcement).

This is the first close look we get of Newt’s closest allies, American wizard Porpentina Goldstein (Katherine Waterston) and average joe Jacob Kowalski (Dan Fogler), ditto of potential foes like the apparently disgruntled and muggle-hating wizard Percival Graves (Colin Farrell). But considering the fact that Rowling’s penchant for wowing us with the unexpected already seems to be rearing itself in this trailer—was that an almost-kiss between Tina and Jacob?—who knows who each of these characters will end up allying with?

What’d you think of the Fantastic Beasts trailer? Let us know!
