Art that mashes together two different franchises has been happening for years, but I didn’t recognize the popularity of the concept until I encountered the work of James Hance. He combines worlds in a way that is as his tagline says, relentlessly cheerful. Hance has a knack for blending together characters and objects; his Winnie the Pooh meets Star Wars combo called Wookiee the Chew is proof of his skill in that department. Chewbacca as Winnie the Pooh? I mean, come on. Look:
Besides having an eye for mash-ups, Hance is a damn fine artist. He captures likenesses of the Doctor (any of them), Harrison Ford as Indiana Jones or Han Solo, Angelina Jolie’s Maleficent, Grover – everyone and everything. His fan art ranges from cartoony to insanely realistic, and he’s constantly working on new illustrations.
More of Hance’s work:
That’s just a small sampling of the art Hance has created. You can keep up with his latest pieces and see work in progress shots at Facebook and Tumblr. And yes, he has prints available for purchase at his website. Prices start at $15.
I think it’s worth mentioning that proceeds frm sales of his art goes towards funding medical treatments for his daughter. Totally worthy cause.
