Bethesda can literally do no wrong. During their incredibly hyped showing of Fallout 4 at their E3 press conference, Bethesda announced a little mobile game that goes by the name of Fallout Shelterâ a free-to-play mobile game that gives the players command of their very own Vault-Tec shelter. Mainly, it’s all about micro-managing your own community.
Despite having two tags people hate, mobile and free-to-play, this title has topped the gaming charts in 48 countries. It’s the top downloaded app in 25 of those countries, which is kind of shocking. I guess people really want to enjoy some sort of new Fallout experiece, even if it is on their iPhone. No doubt that the excitement behind the behemoth triple-A title helped most people get on board with the mobile title. Currently, it’s only on iOS, with no word on when it will be making it’s long awaited appearance on the Android app store. I can only imagine the success will carry over.
Bethesda has also reported that there are over 70 million play sessions a day. Now that’s what we call a large following. Like most free-to-play mobile titles, micro-transactions are included so, this must be making them a good profit, even if only a fraction of the people playing indulge in spending a cash.
Good news is that people are enjoying this title. That’s what really matters. It also bodes well for the eventual release of Fallout 4. Expect some huge sales numbers when that finally hits retailers. Give us more Fallout, Bethesda! Are you part of the reason this mobile game has seen such a success? Or are you a shmuck like myself who is still waiting on the Android version?
