The upcoming Ghostbusters reboot is bringing back a lot of aspects of the original film, including almost all of the surviving cast members for cameo roles. And let’s face it, it just wouldn’t be a Ghostbusters movie without the iconic theme song by Ray Parker, Jr.!
Earlier this week, word broke that Fall Out Boy and Missy Elliott collaborated on a cover the Ghostbusters theme song, which will be the signature track of the upcoming soundtrack. Fall Out Boy’s twitter account quickly confirmed the news.

The first version of that song is one of the all-time great movie themes and it has remained popular among Ghostbusters fans for over thirty years. It also popularized the “Who ya gonna call?” and “I ain’t afraid of no ghosts!” catchphrases, and it’s been ubiquitous with the franchise ever since. The original music video was also a lot of fun to watch, with cameos by Chevy Chase, John Candy, Melissa Gilbert, Jeffrey Tambor,  Al Franken, Danny DeVito, Carly Simon, and more.
In case you were wondering, the young woman running around with Parker in the video was played by an actress named Cindy Harrell. It will be interesting to see if the modern remake by Fall Out Boy and Elliott keeps the tradition alive by making another Ghostbusters music video with celebrity cameos.
The Ghostbusters soundtrack will be available on July 15, alongside the reboot film.
