Exclusive: Vertigo Comics’ THE KITCHEN #7

In case you’ve been living under a rock, Vertigo Comics has been quietly putting out one of the most compelling books on store shelves, The Kitchen. Written by Ollie Masters and illustrated by Ming Doyle, The Kitchen is a gripping eight-part story of three mob wives — Kath, Raven, and Angie — who have to adapt to a bold, new world once their husbands get caught by Johnny Law.

Make no mistake, these are not wilting lillies or damsels in distress; these are the big, bad wolves in grandma’s clothing, prowling the streets of Hell’s Kitchen, and taking matters and the family business into their own hands.

If Mad Max: Fury Road‘s portrayal of badass ladies with nothing to lose had you wanting more, look no further than The Kitchen. Considering newcomer Ollie Masters has a creative team including Ming Doyle, Becky Cloonan, and Jordie Bellaire, there are badass ladies both on and behind the page.

This Wednesday, issue #7 hits store shelves and looks like it’s going to be a barnburner. Blackouts. The Son of Sam looming large. Murders most foul. 1977 was a dangerous time to be alive in New York, especially if you ran afoul of the ladies of Hell’s Kitchen. Before you pick up this issue, though, take a look at our exclusive sneak peek of Vertigo’s The Kitchen #7.

Here’s the official synopsis:

“Kath, Raven, Angie and Tommy hunt a desperate Jimmy after his failed attempt to take back control of Hell’s Kitchen. But this isn’t any ordinary night – this is the New York City blackout of ’77, and with the police barely able to contain the widespread looting and arson, chaos reigns on the streets.”
