In space, no one can hear you scream, but in our office, everyone can hear me hooting and hollering at the awesome-looking new Image Comics series Roche Limit. Haven’t heard of it? Oh, that’s because this is your exclusive first look at the creator-owned comic from writer Michael Moreci and Vic Malhotra, coming to your local comic book store on September 24, 2014.
A hardboiled sci-fi noir story, Roche Limit takes us to the edges of the cosmos to the eponymous colony of Roche Limit, a grueling, dangerous place that sits on the precipice of a mysterious energy source and teems with criminal activity. When a girl, Bekkah Hudson, goes missing though, it prompts a search that reveals some terrible truths about mankind and even more terrible dangers facing them.
Ever since his stellar BOOM! Studios series Curse, Moreci has been one of my favorite new writers to watch and judging by what I’ve seen of Malhotra’s artwork, this is definitely going to be one book you won’t want to miss. Add in the creative talents of colorist Jordan Boyd, letterer Ryan Ferrier, and designer (and Curse cohort) Tim Daniel and you’ve got my money in a comical burlap sack with a black dollar sign emblazoned on the side.
Now, tell me with a straight face that this teaser isn’t sweet and you don’t want to know more. If you did, you’re lying and you should feel bad because your pants are now on fire.
Here’s the official synopsis:
âOur destiny is the stars, and I will lead us there.â Twenty years after this promise, billionaire Langford Skaargardâs dream of cosmic exploration is no more. Roche Limit, a colony situated on the cusp of a mysterious energy anomaly, is a melting pot of crime and terrible secrets. When Bekkah Hudson goes missing, the search to find her will plunge her sister and a cadre of the colonyâs underworld figures into an odyssey that reveals a grim future for mankind. Blending 001 with Blade Runner, ROCHE LIMIT is the first part of a bold sci-fi/noir trilogy.

Pardon me — I need to go find a mop because that Vic Malhotra art has left me up to my shins in an ocean of drool.

Either you misspelled your headline, or MALHOTRA misspelled his name on the book’s cover…
Yeah, that was my bad. I corrected ASAP.
