EXCLUSIVE: DC’s “All Star Western” #20 Preview Pages

While it may not be as popular as titles like Scott Snyder’s Batman or Brian Azzarello’s Wonder Woman, DC Comics’ All Star Western is unbridled genre fun, the likes of which are hard to find elsewhere. Jonah Hex is a grizzled badass, and series writers Justin Gray and Jimmy Palmiotti and artists Mortitat and Staz Johnson made some seriously fun choices by setting the revived series in the Old West version of Gotham City, allowing for awesome tie-ins to storylines like last year’s “Court of Owls.”

In this week’s issue, Gray and Palmiotti introduce a slightly more anachronistic character to the Old West setting: Booster Gold! How will the bombastic future hero work with the less-than-personable Jonah Hex? Well, read on and find out in our exclusive preview pages.

@David D. Thanks! I guess a trip to my LCS is in order.

  2. Ian Boothby says:

Mortiat is all kinds of good and his single name saves on print costs.

  3. David D. says:

    * By “most you need to know”, I probably meant “least”. I don’t know what I was thinking. But you know what I mean: That’s the quick recap. Don’t know who that cult in the first page is yet.

  4. David D. says:

@Miguel David: #19 is the start of this current storyline. If you don’t pick it up right away, I think the most you need to know is that: Booster Gold isn’t sure how he ended up in the Wild West; he’s the sheriff of a town now; and he’s helping Jonah Hex find the Hootkins Gang that recently terrorized his town. (From these preview pages, it looks like the gang has already been taken down and left for dead, except a little person we see caged in the first page. Luckily, Jonah can still collect bounty on a dead Clem Hootkins. Can’t wait to see how it pans out!)

  5. Miguel David says:

That looks really cool. Also,Booster Gold!!! I really need to pick up All Star Western, at least the trades. Bought my first Jonah Hex comic (No Way Back) this year and fell in love with the writing/art and the character. Hopefully this #20 will be a good jumping point.
