March 31st is almost here, and so is the release of acclaimed animator Don Hertzfeldtâs newest short film World of Tomorrow! If youâre into the slightly weird and completely memorable, this is something you are going to want to see.
World of Tomorrow premiered at this yearâs Sundance Film Festival, and in addition to completely wowing attendees, it won the Grand Jury Prize for Best Short Film. Hertzfeldt is known for his innovative animation style and beautifully rendered story telling. Heâs had a record seven films featured at Sundance and is the only filmmaker to win the Grand Jury Prize for Best Short Film twice. His other win was for Everything Will Be OK in 2007.
This new film tells the story of Emily, a young girl who is taken on a fantastic and mind-boggling tour through the far future by her own descendant. Hertzfeldt’s films all have a unique feeling to them that you will want to experience, so make sure you check out his whole website which you can find below. World of Tomorrow is just another example of his ability to tell stories in deeply moving ways that you might not expect from an animated film. Even just this exclusive scene has me excited to see the full film in all its glory.
World of Tomorrow will be available on Vimeo On Demand tomorrow, March 31st. More information on Don, and the film, can be found on Hertzfeldtâs official website.
