Tetris is, quite possibly, the most addictive game of all time. It’s simple, yet maddeningly difficult as it progresses. Behind the simple design of the game is a complicated story that few people know about. Thankfully, master storyteller Box Brown – the man behind last year’s superb graphic novel Andre the Giant: Life and Legend – is about to give us the full scoop on one of gaming’s most intriguing tales.

Publisher First Second Books has given us an exclusive sneak peek at the new book. Here’s the inside scoop:

Box Brown is an Ignatz Award winning cartoonist, illustrator and comic publisher from Philadelphia.  His book Andre the Giant: Life and Legend, released in 2014, spent three weeks on the New York Times Graphic Novel Best Sellers List.  He launched the comics publishing house Retrofit Comics in 2011. 

Gaming is one of the world’s most popular and vital art forms.  Via the lens of Tetris, the ubiquitous puzzle game, this book asks where games come from.  What is the mind of the creator?  When powerful billionaires and government officials come looking for Alexey Pajitnov, creator of Tetris, he finds out how far they’re all willing to go just to get a piece of his Tetris puzzle.
