Sometimes a hairstyle is nothing more than a hairstyle. But sometimes it means Jon Snow didn’t die and will return in the next season of Game of Thrones. By that logic, the beard Ewan McGregor‘s been sporting lately could mean he’s ready to return to the Star Wars universe in a standalone Obi-Wan Kenobi film. We noted the beard when McGregor appeared at our recent Star Wars marathon at El Capitan Theater, and the facial hair was still in place at Sunday’s Golden Globes.

No, the beard doesn’t one hundred percent mean McGregor’s playing Obi-Wan again (though he should). He could be sporting the look for another role or because he really likes having a beard. But hey, isn’t it about time for Disney and Lucasfilm to announce the subject of the third standalone film? I don’t know how soon production would realistically happen since that standalone won’t be released until after Episode IX, but maybe McGregor is preparing. Emphasis on maybe. After he won an award for his role in Fargo on Monday night, he spoke backstage about Obi-Wan, saying, “Thereâs a lot of talk. Iâd be happy to play him again. But I donât know any more about it than you do. Thereâs no plan at the moment.”
Likely story.
Another reason he could be getting ready for more Star Wars: he’s working out. Trainer Tony Horton‘s been sharing photos of himself, Scott Fifer, and McGregor doing Horton’s P90X program. It’s likely only about fitness and staying healthy…but maybe he’s getting in shape for that Tatooine life.
A Star Wars fan can dream.
What do you think McGregor’s beard means? Is it a sign he’s prepping to reprise his role as a Jedi master, or is he just in a mood to have a beard? Share your thoughts in the comments.
