Summer is almost over, and we’re already looking forward to spending the fall with Netflix, Hulu, and Amazon Prime. Now that September is almost upon us, it’s time to once again go over the complete lineup for each of the three major services. But before we get started, here are four standout shows and one movie that number among September’s best streaming options. First, the movie…

Black Panther

The King is here, and not even Avengers: Infinity War could top Black Panther at the domestic box office. Now, Marvel’s pact with Netflix is bringing Black Panther into the fold on September 4. That should give fans another excuse to revisit one of Marvel’s best films. And at this rate, we may even get Infinity War on Netflix by the end of the year.

Iron Fist

The first season of Iron Fist was, shall we say, deeply imperfect. But we have higher hopes for the second season, which finds Danny Rand facing new enemies, including Typhoid Mary. Danny’s also going to deal with his friend-turned-bitter-rival, Davos/Steel Serpent. Early word is that the action is greatly improved this season, but we’ll see it for ourselves when Netflix premieres Iron Fist season 2 on September 7.

BoJack Horseman

BoJack Horseman is also back for a new season, starting September 14 on Netflix. The fifth season will put BoJack back in the spotlight as the star of his own detective series. However, it’s just a matter of time before BoJack finds a way to lose everything he has and more. It can be a pretty bleak show, but it’s almost always funny.

The First

The First isn’t exactly a sci-fi show, but it is exploring a future in which astronauts are preparing to become the first people to make it to Mars. Sean Penn and Natascha McElhone are headlining the cast as the series chronicles the trials and tribulations that stand in the way of humanity’s next big step into the universe. Hulu will premiere The First on September 14.

King Lear

Want more Shakespeare in your life? If so, Amazon has a modernized retelling of King Lear coming to Prime on September 28. It’s pretty hard to go wrong when the cast includes Anthony Hopkins, Emma Thompson, and Emily Watson. We’re very curious to see the what this production adds to the original King Lear, and how it will play out in this setting.
