The dog days of summer are upon us, but if you can’t stand the heat, there’s always the company of air conditioning and Netflix, Hulu, Amazon Prime. August is coming up fast, and it’s another fairly quiet month on the streaming front. However, there are a handful of original series that have caught our eye. Before we go over the complete lineup for each of the three major services, we’re singling out a few of August’s best streaming options.

Voltron: Legendary Defender

Are you tired of Voltron: Legendary Defender grouping together six or seven episodes and calling them a season? Well, then you may be happy to hear that season seven actually runs 13 episodes. Now, that’s a season! And where will the show pick up with our faithful Paladins now that Lotor is defeated and the Castleship is gone? It’s a long trip back to Earth, and it won’t be smooth sailing for anyone. On Friday, August 10, on Netflix, Voltron: Legendary Defender is taking viewers through hostile territory as the Paladins make some shocking discoveries about the fate of their world.

Stan Against Evil

We may have lost Ash vs. Evil Dead, but there’s at least one comedy horror series that’s still on the air. The third season of Stan Against Evil is heading to IFC, but Hulu subscribers will get a chance to catch up on season two starting on Thursday, August 16. This is a very, very funny show that deserves a much bigger audience. That makes this the perfect opportunity to recruit new fans for the series.

Disenchantment

Look, we all miss Futurama, but we are very excited about Matt Groening’s new Netflix series, Disenchantment. This is kind of a Simpsons-meets-Game of Thrones fantasy comedy that reunites several of the Futurama cast members and creative team. But the new core trio is a hard drinking princess named Bean (Abbi Jacobson), her elf friend Elfo (Nat Faxon), and a demon called Luci (Eric Andre). The first season of Disenchantment will hit Netflix on August 17.

Jack Ryan

After conquering the box office with A Quiet Place earlier this year, John Krasinski is stepping up his action game as the titular role of Jack Ryan. On August 31, Amazon Prime is exploring the early days of Tom Clancy’s iconic hero as he finds himself thrust into an international mission to prevent a terrorist plot. Amazon is so bullish on this series that a second season of Jack Ryan has already been ordered.
