SPACEBALLS/STAR WARS Parody Posters Are Strong in the Schwartz

There’s been an awakening. Have you felt it? No, really, can you feel this thing? It’s the Schwartz! Think of the merchandising! Merchandising! Merchandising!

With Star Wars returning to our lives that’s a perfect excuse to also bring a little Spaceballs back into them too, and that’s just why you’ll want these new Spaceballs/Star Wars/The Force Awakens parody posters.

The folks at io9.com debuted these gorgeous parody posters from artist Joshua Budich, but it might be tough to get them, with only an initial run of 250 being made available of these 18 x 24 inch screenprints at Nakatomi Inc. The posters use the silhouettes from Mel Brooks’ 1987 Star Wars parody of the characters Barf, Dot Matrix, and Dark Helmet.

If these look familiar to you that’s no surprise, because they are based on posters made for Mondo by artist Olly Moss in 2010.

Those have become very popular. No, like, very, very popular. In fact, if you are lucky enough to own some they are probably part of your retirement fund. If you search for Moss’s posters on EBay the first result you get is a listing for a mint condition set of all three, hand numbered as part of the 400 edition run.

The listing price is 19,990 dollars. You’d have to be President Skroob to afford them.

Budich wanted to pay homage to Moss’s posters, and he certainly did that, while still capturing the spirit of Spaceballs. Sorry, I mean the Schwartz of Spaceballs.

Which one is your favorite? Comb the desert of our comments section to let us know.
