Enver Gjokaj Gets a Promotion on Season Two of AGENT CARTER

There are some big changes coming to Marvel’s Agent Carter for the show’s second season, like Peggy’s move from New York to Hollywood and the addition of classic Iron Man villain Madame Masque as Agent Carter’s main antagonist.

But although Peggy Carter, played by the amazing Hayley Atwell, might be moving to the Los Angeles offices of the S.S.R., there is at least one agent from the old days who will be coming along with her: Daniel Sousa, played by Enver Gjokaj, is getting promoted to Chief, according to this photo Marvel tweeted out today:

On the show, Daniel Sousa was the only agent in the male-dominated world of the S.S.R. who believed in Peggy’s abilities, while all the other agents pretty much dismissed her as “just a woman.” This led to a lot of fans “shipping” the two characters, hoping they’d hook up (we know from Captain America: The Winter Soldier that Peggy does eventually marry someone, we just don’t know who it is).

Of course, things went down differently in season one of the show, but the future is still wide open for these two. It’s also curious that he’s getting promoted in year two, when at the end of the first season, Agent Thompson (played by Chad Michael Murray) took all the credit for Sousa’s actions and got promoted over him.

Keeping Enver Gjokaj around is a smart move on the part of the producers, because as fans of the actor’s stint on Joss Whedon’s series Dollhouse know, this guy can play anything and anyone. They definitely need to give him more to do, because he’s simply too good an actor to waste. He needs to be a bigger star, at least big enough so that we can all pronounce his last name correctly instead of just guessing.

Agent Carter season two is set to premiere mid-season on ABC in 2016.
