This is why the British are the best, alright folks? They don’t really take themselves all that seriously â even the professionals. Like screenwriter/former PC Gamer Editor-in-Chief Gary Whitta, who â I shit you not â wrote a fan fiction mash-up of epic proportions. It involves Howard Stark (yeah, Tony’s dad) visiting the sweeping Edwardian vistas of Downton Abbey and having a right laugh at the expense of the Crawley family. And it is brilliantly hilarious.
Yeah, we’re not kidding. And it’s actually pretty epic. Following Howard on a visit to the dramatic ways of Downton, Papa Stark is brought to the abbey by Cora Crawley’s brother Harold Levinson (Paul Giamatti), hoping to pitch the Crawleys on the Arc Reactor.
First there was that shout-out to the series in Iron Man 3 and now this? Did anyone have any idea Marvel that loved dramatic British aristocrats so much? Because I didn’t but I am ON BOARD, let me tell you that much.
You can read the whole thing in the PDF below (and trust us, you want to), but to whet your appetite, here’s a snippet from the script wherein we finally learn how Howard came up with the moniker for Jarvis:
STARK: Even our state governor doesn’t have guys dressed up like penguins bringing him food on a silver plate. If I ever make it rich I gotta get me one of these. One with a real English-sounding name. You know, something classy. Whatâs your name?
BARROW: Barrow, sir.
STARK: Nah, thatâs not it. Hey, what do you think about “Jarvis”?
Stark should demonstrate the arc reactor and then in the future we see Agent Peggy Carter visit Downton for help against Hydra.
