Multi-hyphenate turned triple-threat Elizabeth Banks adds “director” to her business card, as she plans to make her feature directorial debut with Pitch Perfect 2. Banks co-starred in and produced the first movie, and deserves major snaps for coming up with the idea and championing it in the first place. If not for her, we might not have reached full media saturation of everyone’s imaginary best friend, Anna Kendrick, nor would we be secretly harmonizing in our cars to “Cups,” the sleeper hit single to come out of the first movie.
Pitch Perfect followed an edgy freshman (Kendrick) with turntable fantasies and mixtape dreams who gets sucked into the world of competitive college a capella. The cast was stacked, featuring Anna Camp, Skylar Astin, and an army of comedy cameos, as well as breakout star Rebel Wilson. Kendrick and Wilson are rumored to return for the next movie, so we’re basically guaranteed a round 2 hit with a 2015 release date.
