EA Releases Details on STAR WARS BATTLEFRONT Season Pass & Hero Hunt Mode

Star Wars Battlefront may not have microtransactions, but the season pass will be strong with this one. EA has released details for the game’s $50 season pass, which will include four expansion packs, two weeks of early access to each expansion, and an exclusive emblem that reads “Shoot First.” Additional details on the season pass are to be released in the weeks to come.

To quell the imminent consumer outrage, which is sure to come due to the stance folks take against season passes lately, EA also shed light on their recently leaked Hero Hunt mode. If you’ve experienced a Juggernaut match in any of the Halo games, this will sound all too familiar. Hero Hunt will pit seven player-controlled soldiers against one player-controlled hero/villain character, the latter of which is determined by what map you play on. EA describes it as “A tense seven-versus-one hunt.” The player who kills the hero or the villain then takes their place as Darth Vader, Luke Skywalker, Boba Fett, “or whichever iconic character is up based on the pre-determined order.” We discovered last week that Emperor Palpatine, Han Solo, and Princess Leia will also be among the game’s playable characters.

While the idea of a season pass is clearly unsettling to most gamers, Battlefield fans should feel right at home. The last two DICE-developed Battlefield games followed a similar DLC rollout structure, and I imagine Battlefront will be using Episode VII, among other relevant Star Wars tie-ins, to theme their expansion content after. The good news is we still have one more day to fool around in the beta, which means more time to create memorable Luke-crushing moments.

Are you turned off by the inclusion of a DLC pass in Star Wars Battlefront? Does Hero Hunt mode sound like something that’s up your alley? Force push your thoughts into the comments below.
