In EA’s SEA OF SOLITUDE, Loneliness Is a Real Beast

EA isn’t just about sports, real wars, and space wars — as part of the new EA Originals line, they’ve picked up Sea of Solitude, a new indie game from Germany’s Jo-Mei.

Writer-creator Cornelia Geppert says of the game that “Sea of Solitude is by far the most artistic and personal project I’ve ever created. At times it is very challenging to dig that deep into your own feelings like core fears, longing and anger, but at the same time it is the most fulfilling thing to express those very feelings by putting it to people through art.” In the game, you will play as Kay, a young woman whose loneliness has turned her into a monster. And she’s not the only one–many poor souls more far gone than her have changed into various different stages of monster, from vaguely humanoid to massive kaiju. Kay must explore a partially submerged city in order to find the cure for herself, and possibly everyone else as well.

We’re already digging the cel-shaded animation look and the vibe of the abandoned town that seems to be both sinking and burning. And is that giant bird a lonely soul, or a deadly antagonist? Or both? Guess we’ll find out in early 2019.
