If you think back to your childhood, you can probably name a handful of toys, games, media, or activities that had a profound effect upon your older self. For Eric Harshbarger, three significant influences were LEGO bricks, computer programming, and Dungeons & Dragons. He’s a professional LEGO sculpter and mosaic builder, so the LEGO thing clearly stuck with him. He took his passion for bricks and combined it with his love of Dungeons & Dragons to create a massive and massively impressive LEGO mural depicting the cover of the 1977 boxed set of the game with art by David Sutherland. How big is the mosaic? I’m so glad you asked. It measures 75 inches wide by 90 inches tall. Harshbarger used over 50,000 pieces and 20 different colors of bricks to bring the cover to life. Each piece was snapped into place upon 30 extra large gray base plates. He spent approximately two months creating the project in his living room. As if that wasn’t enough of an investment, it took six hours to install the finished mural onto his wall. I don’t know a lot about life, but I do know I don’t possess that kind of patience.

Is it possible to use your Dungeon Master powers to get your gaming group to assemble a mural like this for you? It’s probably just a matter of how much XP you’re willing to hand out to get the job done, right? No, we’re kidding. Don’t use your gaming group like that. Your children, however…
