Disney’s DuckTales reboot hasn’t had a new episode in months, but we’ve finally heard some news about the series. Starting in May, DuckTales is coming to Disney Channel with an episode slated to air every day of the month. The show will officially premiere on its new channel on May 1 with episodes from the first half of the season, which broadcast on Disney XD last year, but the first brand new episode won’t air until May 4. Disney Channel also released a fun trailer to go along with the announcement.
Presumably, Disney is moving the show to increase its audience. It’s a great update of the original ’80s series that captures the spirit of the Carl Barks comics that inspired it. But you can judge for yourself, since Disney Channel also posted the entire two-part pilot episode on YouTube.
The 10th episode of the ongoing first season, “The Spear of Selene!”, is slated to debut on Friday, May 4 at 8pm according to the Disney Channel schedule. That’s as far as the schedule currently goes, but there are at least 11 episodes remaining in season one after episode 10, and we can assume they’ll follow before long. DuckTales has also been renewed for a second season.
Unlike the original series, the updated show has embraced serialized stories and dared to dive into the slowly unfolding mystery of Della Duck, the long-missing mother of Huey, Dewey, and Louie. The other major plotline involves Magica De Spell, an evil sorceress who has planted a spy close to the Duck family in service of her larger agenda. We’re very eager to see these arcs come to a conclusion!
