DUCKTALES Clip Shows the McDuck Gang Playing War

It’s been abundantly clear from what we’ve seen so far of Disney XD’s updated DuckTales series that the high-flying adventures of Scrooge McDuck and his motley crew of family and friends are going to be a bit different this time around. It’s a bit more irreverent, it’s a bit faster paced, and the animation style hearkens back to Disney comic books much more than the classic style of their once-dominant afternoon programming block. But the latest clip from the series—premiering with an hour special on August 12—which was shown at D23 this weekend, proves the show will have a lot more focus on the strange new family unit.

Several takeaways from this clip. The first is that David Tennant‘s take on Unca Scrooge is a lot more laid back than the previous one. He doesn’t seem to mind at all that his new charges are playing extreme dart gun war in his presumably very expensive house…just don’t take a bath in his private bathroom, DONALD. Second, mad props to Mrs. Beakley (Toks Olagundoye) for a.) being the only grown-up in the house, and 2.) for having Spider-Man-caliber reflexes when it comes to catching tea cups and falling vases. VI.), and perhaps most importantly, Webby (Kate Micucci) takes playing war VERY seriously. Who even HAS night vision goggles anymore? And how did she get on the chandelier? She’s definitely not the kind of duck to be trifled with, even if the foyer is the “safe zone.”

Mostly, this new DuckTales just looks fun, and with a cast that truly cannot be rivaled, it’s one we hope lasts for a good long while.
