Dreams, Realized: The AVENGERS and GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY Will Likely Meet

Oh pickles! Just when we thought we’d quelled our undying anticipation for all things Marvel Studios, what with the release of Guardians of the Galaxy this weekend, James Gunn had to go and send us all into a collective tizzy. Why? Oh just because he basically confirmed that we’re very likely to see a Guardians and The Avengers crossover sometime in the future. Commence brain melt!

Now, this contains some minor Avengers/Guardians spoilers, folks, so tread lightly (or not at all) if you’re fearful of ruining your movie-going experience.

Speaking to Yahoo! UK, Gunn and Co. explained the seemingly inevitable meet-up of two of our favorite roving gangs of superfolk. Apparently? It’s already been discussed (because of course it has! Because those goddamn beautiful geniuses at Marvel KNOW WHAT WE WANT and that is ALL of the superheroes ALL of the time).

“We talked about all sorts of possibilities [for a crossover], and I kind of know what the bas  ic plan is,” explained Gunn. “That could or could not include a couple of Avengers and a couple of Guardians meeting up, or all of the Avengers and all of the Guardians. But, we do inhabit the same universe and they’re pretty big personalities that are likely to, at some point or another, run into each other.”

“I think Marvel will have a lot of options after this movie,” said Vin Diesel. “I think the audience may demand something like that.”

“I’d like to see it,” added Dave Bautista. So would we, dude. So would we.

Naturally, the easy way to do this would probably involve Thanos, given the fact that he totally knows that both the Avengers AND the Guardians exist. But what do you think? How could we get these two groups together? Let us know your theories in the comments!

  1. Kyle Neary says:

Instead of using avengers 3 for thanos they may just call it infinity or something like that and use both teams together to tackle thanos

  2. The term for a hidden clue or reference in a movie should be “geode” and not ” Easter egg.”

  3. Russtover says:

Marvel should work to get all its characters under one roof (together again for the first time) and do either Marvel Secret Wars or Avengers vs X-Men.  Either will take all the money in the world and ignite a second great recession.

    • rashad says:

Sadly as long as Fox and Sony are making money from the properties the chances of them selling are slim to none. Unless ppl stop going to the movies your dreams will never exist 🙁

  4. FatherBear says:

Annihilators: Beta Ray Bill, Ronin, Nova, etc (No Surfer or Gladiator, as other studios have the rights) http://i.ytimg.com/vi/q9uEbz0JcIc/0.jpg

  5. Kenton says:

    Maybe…”Avengers of the Galaxy”…

  6. jeff says:

Wait…. How is this news? I thought the whole purpose of the guardians movie was to introduce the characters before the avengers 2… Phase 1 was iron man, the incredible hulk, captain america, and Thor, and culminated with the avengers, and then phase two was iron man 3, cap 2, Thor 2, and guardians and will culminate with avengers 2, and phase three being cap 3 guardians 2 ant man and doc strange culminating with avengers 3..?

  7. Jim says:

I’m pretty sure this is all heading to Avengers 3. Once Thanos secures all six of the infinity gems, he will control the Infinity Gauntlet and threaten to destroy half of the universe. I expect that the Guardians will be aware of this first, and their journey to stop him will take them to Earth. Perhaps Thanos will decide to test the power of the gauntlet on Earth since they thwarted his plans in Avengers 1. The Guardians will crash onto the scene, fill the Avengers in on the threat (after the prerequisite fight that comes from not understanding each other). The two teams will then have a common threat and a common goal. In the comics, Thanos’ villainous adoptive daughter Nebula also plays a big role. That explains why we have no idea of her current whereabouts.

Avengers 3 will no doubt be the “Cannonball Run” of super hero movies.  The huge Marvel crossover event that told this story involved dozens of heroes from most all of the books Marvel was publishing at the time. That is how they do things, so I expect Avengers 3 will feature cameos from every hero introduced up to that point. We will surely see Ant Man, The Wasp, Doctor Strange,The Vision, Scarlet Witch, Quicksilver, and probably the Nova Corps from Guardians. The only one I don’t expect is Howard the Duck, but I could be wrong there too.

  8. ian says:

In the series avengers or should i say the guardians protects something from the avengers (i dont know what was it) but thats that maybe they will really have some cross overs

  9. Groot says:

    I am groot.

    • BigEarn says:

I hear what you’re saying, but I don’t think this is exploiting the separate story lines at all, it’s just a natural osmosis of competing stories.

  10. Craigglesworth says:

Thanos will feel the Guardians have wronged him as much as the Avengers have. He’s gone after two infinitely (uhuehuehuehuehuehue) powerful objects and has nothing to show for it. They’re both thorns in his side but if he gets his hands on these objects anyway, which he almost certainly will, then taking two down at once would certainly be his perogative.
