Delirium and Dream have been many things in Neil Gaiman’s comic book series The Sandman, but they haven’t gone blocky. The Endless haven’t been included in any official LEGO merchandise. Luckily, there are plenty of builders who can make our LEGO-Sandman related dreams come true. The Deathly Halliwell nailed it with these LEGO busts depicting two of the Endless, and while I’d like to see him tackle all the siblings, I’ll take what I can get.
Halliwell did an incredible job bringing Delirium and Dream to life. He made Dream first and used a bunch of LEGO parts made for dinosaurs to make Dream’s hair. The materials include dinosaur tail end sections and tail/neck middle sections. He also incorporated droid arms and an octopus – basically all kinds of black LEGO pieces to create the crazy hair the character has in the comics. Dream’s glowing eyes are LEGO light-up bricks that shine through translucent yellow pupils.
He made Delirium later and successfully captured her whimsical nature. She’s the youngest of the Endless and acts out, and some of that is reflected in her fluid appearance. Halliwell included the multicolor hair, the different eye colors, as well as fish and butterflies. I like to imagine they’re floating around her head, and that she’s talking to them with colorful word balloons.
It doesn’t seem possible that LEGO bricks could be used to create something so realistic, but The Deathly Halliwell isn’t a stranger to creating busts like these. He has a whole gallery of them including Hellboy and the Faun from Pan’s Labyrinth among others. You can view everything over at Flickr.
Wow…! 😀
