Friday, Adult Swim announced via their official Twitter page that fans of Valve’s DOTA 2 MOBA game were going to be receiving a special treat in the form of a new Announcers Pack voiced by none other than Rick and Morty of Rick and Morty. Yes, voice actor and co-creator Justin Roiland has lent his vocal talents to call your DOTA 2 games as alcoholic mad scientist Rick Sanchez and his walking-anxiety-attack of a grandson, Morty Smith.
This is only one of several additional announcer packs that have been made for DOTA 2, but it is the first that has not been based on another video game. Previous packs featured the voices of other Valve game characters such as Portal’s GLaDOS and Half-Life’s Dr. Kleiner, as well as one featuring the narrator from The Stanley Parable, a popular indie-darling that was built on Valve’s Source Engine.
As with the previously released announcer packs, the Rick and Morty’s commentary is not in anyway meant to be serious. Imagine watching a sport with two color commentators who barely know what sport they are watching. Also, fun moments like Rick commenting that “that’s the doctor that cured my alcoholism” offers moments that can take the tension out of a MOBA match. Trust me, that is something worth buying right there. Adding a level of humor to a match could very well be enough to make losing a little more bearable, it can also make it a lot more fun to win.
Are you planning on having Rick and Morty call your games from now on? Let us know in the comments below.
