DC Universe’s DOOM PATROL Casts Cyborg

Although the DC Universe streaming service’s upcoming Titans series won’t have long standing member Cyborg in their initial line-up of heroes, the character is confirmed for another DC Universe streaming show: Doom Patrol. Joivan Wade (The First Purge, Doctor Who) has been cast for the series regular role of Victor Stone, a.k.a. Cyborg in the show. Wade will be the third actor to portray Cyborg in live-action, following Smallville‘s Lee Thompson Young, and Justice League‘s Ray Fisher.

According to the official description, “Vic Stone is the charming and sarcastic half-human, half-machine superhero known as Cyborg. Vic may be connected to every computer on the world, but he struggles to maintain the connections that make him human. Desperate to gain acceptance from the outside world, Vic harnesses the curse of his cybernetic body and uses his powers as the ultimate hero for the digital age.”

Doom Patrol is a reimagining of one of DC Comics’ strangest group of outcasts heroes: Robotman, Negative Man, Elasti-Woman, and Crazy Jane. Led by the mysterious Dr. Niles Caulder, the group is called into action by the ultimate hero for the digital age, Cyborg. They find themselves on a mission that will take them to the weirdest and most unexpected corners of the DC universe. Robotman and Cyborg are very similar characters, so it will be interesting to see how the showrunners don’t make one of them seem redundant.

It’s also an interesting choice for Cyborg to be in Doom Patrol and not Titans, given that in the comics and the animated series, Victor Stone is a long standing member of the Teen Titans. He’s never been a member of the Patrol in the comics lore, although one can see how he could fit in. But since Doom Patrol is going to be a spin-off of Titans, it stands to reason we’ll see Victor joking around with Beast Boy at some point. Don’t give up hope on seeing the full classic Titans line-up together on screen just yet.

Are you stoked to see Cyborg come to life on the small screen in an all-new incarnation? Be sure to let us know your thoughts in the comments.
