Ask and ye shall receive, internet (well, sorta): Donald Gloverâa.k.a. Childish Gambino, a.k.a. the man behind some of Tracy Jordan’s best lines (Werewolf Bar Mitzvah, anyone?), a.k.a. social media’s choice for the new Spider-Man prior to Tom Holland’s arrival on the sceneâhas been cast in the upcoming Spider-Man: Homecoming, according to a new report from Deadline.  Sources close to production have confirmed the news to Nerdist independently. We have reached out to Sony for additional details and will update this post as they become available.
Glover joins a cast of characters embodied by the likes of Zendaya (who’s playing a character named Michelle), Robert Downey, Jr. as Iron Man/Tony Stark, Marisa Tomei as Aunt May, and the aforementioned Holland, who made quite the adorable splash as a scene-stealing highlight of Captain America: Civil War.
Unfortunately, that’s about all we know when it comes to Glover’s appearance in the film. Is he a co-star? A wee little pop-in and? Some sort of nod to the hullabaloo surrounding the internet’s desire for Glover to be cast as Miles Morales? It’s too early to say, but we’re excited about the development regardless. After seeing the Spidey tone that was set in Civil War, Glover’s comedic chopsâhoned during Community and during his time as a writer on 30 Rockâfeel like a natural fit with the endearingly charming new iteration. Fingers crossed he’ll also write a song for the soundtrack (all things considered, that feels like a safe bet).
Glover’s also got his own starring vehicle in the works with his new FX series Atlanta, the clever promo for which you can see below:
