DOCTOR’S FINEST: Hannah Hart and Charlie McDonnell Discuss Regeneration

We’re winding all the way down (like a clock…huh? Huh?!) to the end of the line for The Doctor’s Finest, BBC America’s look back at some of the best episodes of the past several years of Doctor Who, and it’s been a really great time thus far. So far, the show’s celebrated three great David Tennant episodes and four great Matt Smith episodes (which included “The Day of the Doctor,” featuring Tennant…see, it’s fair!) and that only leaves one left before the Series 9 premiere this Saturday: Peter Capaldi’s debut, “Deep Breath.”

But, before we get too far ahead of ourselves, let’s look at Matt Smith’s final episode, “The Time of the Doctor.” Doctor’s Finest host Hannah Hart spoke to British YouTuber Charlie McDonnell about the special and about Doctor Who in general. In the above web-exclusive clip, the pair talk about how they wish we could live in an age where a new Doctor could come into the show without the media circus that follows it, allowing people to actually perhaps be surprised about the regeneration. I doubt it’d ever happen these days, but it’s sure nice to think about. Hear hear, Hannah and Charlie.

The final Doctor’s Finest, featuring the episode “Deep Breath,” will air this Friday, September 18, at 8:00pm ET/PT, but that’s only part of BBC America’s Doctor Who takeover, which begins Wednesday, September 16, with a marathon of Series 2-7, then Doctor’s Finest, then a Series 8 marathon, all leading up to the premiere of Series 9, “The Magician’s Apprentice,” at 9:00pm ET/PT on Saturday, September 19. All Who, all the time, folks.

Be sure to check back here Friday for my reminiscence about “Deep Breath” and Saturday for my review of “The Magician’s Apprentice.” Who-ray!
