@Gabriel, during the 5th series, I definitely liked the adorkable Rory more than Amy and was so sad when he… “left.” But now Amy’s grown on me so I’m enjoying series 6 and all 3 companions (including River) very much!
As beautiful as Karen Gillan is I actually like Arthur Darvill’s Rory better. I love the kindness and sweetness of his character. I love how much Rory loves Amy and his straightforward desire to be a good husband and father and to do what is right. He is currently my favorite character on the show.
Has there ever been a male companion with no female? A lot of these guys barely count as companions in my mind, since they just pop in for a few shows along with the constant female. 35% seems high for the guys.

I really hope they get a new companion next season. As smitten as I was with Pond, I’m over her. Her act is aging and I’d like to see less companion-centric stories and more fun Doctor stuff. Plus, The real test of Matt Smith is to see if he can evolve as his companions get replaced.
@cass you are correct but that would still be counted as one character interesting enough is Lalla Ward married Richard Dawkins whom made an cameo in The Stolen Earth.
Why doesn’t Rose’s mum Jackie count? As for Romana, Mary Tamm was the original and then came Lalla Ward, a.k.a. Mrs. Tom Baker.

They DID connect SJ to Baker, and did not connect Jamie to Tennant, the white lines just aren’t very clear.
And why is Jamie connected to the tenth Doctor? Other than the doctor used his name in “Tooth and Claw”?
