The Doctors are Very Cranky in This New DOCTOR WHO Christmas Special Clip

One of the most uniquely fun things about Doctor Who is its ability to continually return to its past, creating new opportunities for retconning itself and filling in gaps left purposefully or otherwise. In many ways, that is the main function of the upcoming Christmas special—minus that whole “introducing a new Doctor/saying goodbye to Peter Capaldi” thing—titled “Twice Upon a Time.” Taking place between two very specific scenes in a First Doctor serial story, “The Tenth Planet,” it not only serves as a farewell to Stephen Moffat and Capaldi’s work on the series, it brings David Bradley in to fill in the blanks left by the original First Doctor, William Hartnell.

Naturally, these two cranky old men are going to bicker. A lot. Because, frankly, what makes a better allegorical case for bringing in a women for the first time ever than seeing two old dudes rant, rave, and repeat the past? Don’t believe us, check out the new clip, below!

And yes, before you ask, that is perma-fixture on the Who/Sherlock scene Mark Gatiss playing “The Sergeant.” If you’re hoping for something a bit less cantankerous when you watch this year, fret not. The new and first-ever female Doctor, Jodie Whittaker, will appear in the episode’s final moments after Peter Capaldi’s Doctor has regenerated, in a scene written by new showrunner Chris Chibnall. Needless to say, we’re quivering with anticipation.
