It’s official, people! The BBC itself has tweeted that the premiere of Doctor Who‘s eighth series will be Saturday, August 23rd, 2014. That will be the first time fans can catch a glimpse of Twelfth Doctor Peter Capaldi in anything more than cameo purposes.
The episode will be entitled “Deep Breath,” will be written by Steven Moffat and directed by Ben Wheatley (of A Field in England and Kill List fame) and will be, are you ready for this, FEATURE LENGTH.
Here’s the BBC’s tweet with the new poster image.

Also, the BBC tweeted a tiny new teaser for the episode, which doesn’t feature much but does hint at the conflict inherent between the new Doctor and his companion, Clara Oswald played by Jenna Coleman.
Intriguing, yes? Now whether “feature-length” means 90 minutes or 75 minutes is still to be seen. “The Day of the Doctor,” if you’ll remember, was 76 minutes and that was the 50th Anniversary special. I can’t imagine it’d be too much longer than that. However, the BBC is not unused to 90-minute episodes of things from Moff, given all the Sherlock episodes have been that long. Either way, more Doctor Who is the best Doctor Who.
Here in the U.S., BBC America confirmed that the episode will premiere at 8/7c, which will then be followed by the premiere of Intruders at 10:00pm, so that might give some idea of the length of the ep. We’ll just have to see.
Mark your calendars now! How excited are you?!?!
hah! Nice derpy pic of crosseyed clara…
I would like to see the 12th Doctor not use a sonic screwdrivermaybe because he’s wise enough to prevent the next impending doom in 24 minutes without it.
Timey Wimey Excited!
He’s wearing a wedding ring. Spoilers?
Spoilers? “The Wedding of River Song” ring a bell?
Scroll up.
Spoilers, it’s Capaldi’s own. He never takes it off. It’s just had bits added to it to resemble Hartnell’s ring 😀
That is a very interesting factoid!
