David Tennant and Billie Piper Reunite for DOCTOR WHO Audio Stories

Man, we’ve been getting a lot of audio drama news lately. That’s a very old-timey sentence and certainly not one I expected to type in the year 2017. But Big Finish, the audio drama production company that has the license on various TV genre titles, has been delivering supremely exciting news recently. I told you last week how you can listen to 35 hours of their back catalog on Spotify, as well as Big Finish giving us a brand new season of Torchwood. Now, fans of Doctor Who Series 2 will have more David Tennant and Billie Piper stories to love with the announcement of three new adventures, in audio format.

In the last couple of years, Big Finish—which always had the license on Classic Series Doctor Who (they’ve been doing Fifth, Sixth, and Seventh Doctor stories since 1999 and Eighth Doctor since 2001)—have added New Who to their roster, getting to touch on Torchwood, characters like River Song, and even commissioned series for John Hurt’s War Doctor. David Tennant had returned for a series of three adventures alongside Catherine Tate’s Donna Noble in 2016, and now he’ll be joined by the New Series’ first companion, Rose Tyler.

Executive producer Jason Haigh-Ellery says of the new series: “Getting David and Billie back together was definitely on my bucket list – two wonderful actors who created an era of Doctor Who which is so fondly remembered and brought a different aspect of the relationship between the Doctor and his companion to the fore – love, both platonic and unrequited. It’s great to have the Tenth Doctor and Rose back again!”

I have to admit that I was never the biggest fan of the Ten and Rose pairing—I just didn’t like how fawning they were with each other, and I much preferred the Nine and Rose dynamic—but there’s no way I’m not gonna listen to these, because let’s face it, the Tenth Doctor’s energy and positiveness in this era is unmatched. It’ll be interesting, over 10 years later, to hear Tennant re-approximate his first series.

The three stories will be as follows: “Attack of the Zaross” by John Dorney, in which an alien invasion of Earth isn’t quite what it appears to be (Camille Coduri guest stars as Jackie Tyler); “Sword of the Chevalier” by Guy Adams in which our heroes meet Chevalier d’Eon, a real-life French spy who lived his life as a woman in 1791 Slough, which is overtaken by aliens; and finally “Cold Vengeance” by Matt Fitton in which our heroes meet Ice Warriors on a space frozen food planet. Weird.

All three of these stories will be out in November.
