File this one in the “probably going to happen” rumor column: TheWrap is reporting that Drew Goddard is in negotiations to write the Netflix original live-action series Daredevil. Their source is credited as “an individual with knowledge of the project,” but they quickly point out that no one from the Goddard, Disney, or Netflix camps have replied or offered to comment.
You probably know Goddard as the co-writer/director of The Cabin in the Woods, but should also know that he is a TV veteran having served time in the Lost, Alias, Buffy, and Angel writer’s rooms. He was also one of many writers on World War Z, and is currently in development on the sci-fi movie âThe Martianâ for 20th Century Fox.
Daredevil is the first of several recently-reported Disney/Marvel/Netflix live-action shows. Also announced to be getting series treatment are Luke Cage, Jessica Jones, and Iron Fist.  The deal also mentioned a miniseries called The Defenders, but unless they plan on including Doctor Strange in the mix, it seems they’ll only share a name with their comic book counterparts, since Namor is still owned by Universal and Surfer is still owned by 20th Century Fox. What do you think they’ll do for Defenders? How about Goddard as the DD writer? I think it’s a strong choice but I want – NEED – to know what you think. Post below….
I’ve been saying for years that DAREDEVIL would be much better as a series than a movie, so I am glad that is happening.
It would be awesome if the Luke Cage and Iron Fist series eventually merge for HEROES FOR HIRE.
I am not excited for the Jessica Jones show, however and think that The DEFENDERS will be weak without the right talent and character mix.
I can’t wait to see Iron Fist on the small screen ! Bring on the Kung-Fulishness !!
deep. All good!
Daredevil is the biggest risk. Hopefully who ever takes it on will have fath in the viewers and give us a proper DD series. Doesn’t have to be right from the page, but DD is Marvel’s best character and this is a great opportunity to show tht to the world.
I hope Marvel can make enough money off of these series to buy back the rights to all the characters that the other studios keep screwing up.
I’m just glad these characters are getting some spotlight. Go Marvel! 😉
