Disney’s Adorable WALL•E Will Soon Be Getting the LEGO Treatment

LEGO Ideas is such a beautiful, beautiful thing. It’s the user-submitted, fan-voted system of bringing the world’s collective LEGO set wish lists to life. Creative builders are encouraged to submit both original designs, as well as designs based on licensed properties that they themselves might not have the capital to bring to life. In the past we’ve seen the LEGO Ideas program–formerly known as CUUSOO–release a LEGO brick versions of the iconic Ecto-1 from Ghostbusters, Back to the Future‘s Delorean, the long-awaited Minecraft mini-model, as well as the overwhelmingly popular all-female STEM-inspired “Research Institute” set.

The next Hollywood property getting the Danish building block treatment is Disney and Pixar’s moving 2008 CGI movie WALL•E. This set, however, has more official heft behind it than just the officially licensed sticker from Disney. Pixar animator Angus MacLane worked in tandem on creating both a LEGO model and the original design of WALL•E way back in 2005. He shelved his work on the LEGO design while the animation process took priority. A few tweaks over the years, and he was ready to submit the project to the Ideas project in 2014.

Britain’s Smyth Toy’s was the first to break the official images, mentioning a vague expected release date of December of this year. Often, the release dates of LEGO sets in the European market don’t coincide with the North American date, so it’s probably best to just slap a “Holiday 2015” on your countdown calendar if you’re planning to build your own little trash compacting, Earth-saving robot.

He even comes complete with Hal, his roving cockroach companion. See that little antenna lever LEGO piece on his left “shoulder”? That’s Hal! How excited are you to build your own WALL•E? Sound off in the comments below!
